The Life Of Lillian Morrison
Lillian Morrison was born in 1917. She was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, where she grew up. As a child, she would often play street games that included many rhymes and chants with her friends. This inspired her love of poetry. She also loved watching the movement of human body in sports- "I love rhythms, the body movement implicit in poetry, explicit in sports- I am drawn to athletes, dancers, drummers, jazz musicians, who transcend misery and frustration and symbolize for us something joyous, ordered, and possible in life." This topic inspired many of her poems. In fact, she was the first person to publish a book consisting of sports poems. Some of her most famous poems include, "The Sidewalk Racer" and "The Sprinters". She died recently in 2013.
